Grades: 1-6
*This is a lesson I taught to first through sixth grade students as part of a weeklong science camp.
1. Start by discussing animals that live in hot climates and ways that they can cool down. Guide the students into discussing ears and how animals use their ears to fan themselves.
2. On a warm day, take the students outside and let them warm up a little.
3. Give each student a small cardstock ear and have them fan themselves with it, taking note as to how it helps them cool down. Continue this step three times, increasing the size of the ear.
4. Have the students compare which ears helped them feel coolest.
